A week of firsts

Dustin is working on a show with Book-It and has been in tech rehearsals the past couple weeks. It has been a crazy time. Not to mention we have all gotten sick in the midst of it. But, Gideon and I have found some fun activities to keep us occupied while dad is away.

Last weekend we went to visit Dustin on his break. The theatre is at the Seattle Center, so we enjoyed dinner outside and then went in and met everyone he is working with. When we got to the Seattle Center and Gideon saw the water fountain, he started running toward it, waving his arms and laughing. He was so happy! He loves playing in water, so seeing this fountain was the ultimate water game. After Dustin went back in for rehearsal, Gideon and I spent some time at the fountain!

Last night we also had a new adventure. Every time we get in the car to go somewhere all Gideon wants to do is explore the car: stand on his car seat and peer over into the front seat, touch the back of the window, try to open the doors, climb on the seats. Every time I get in the car I lament the days I could vacuum our car out every month. Well, last night I had a realization – I can vacuum the car, while Gideon explores the car. This was a huge hit, leaving mom and Gideon both very happy! Gideon even asked for music, so we rocked out to some tunes while having fun in the car!

Petting Zoo

A couple weeks ago our family took a trip to Kelsey Creek Farm. Gideon loves animals and we were wanting to take a family trip to a petting zoo.

Gideon’s favorite animals by far were the chickens. He would chase them around (from behind the fence) and put his finger through the fence to try to pet them. He didn’t want to leave when we told him we were going to move onto the next animal.

Next we went to the bunnies. Gideon also really liked these animals which makes me really happy. Someday we want to have an urban farm with chickens and goats (and I am advocating for bunnies), so hopefully we have another vote for bunnies in the family! There were 4 different bunnies in cages. Gideon walked from one cage to the next, trying to pet them.

Next we saw the cows. Gideon mooed at the cows, but I am not sure this was his favorite animal.

A farm wouldn’t be complete without a tractor, so Gideon enjoyed playing on the Lil’ Johnny Deere!

Next were the sheep! Gideon baaed at them and got to pet their wool. He wanted to jump in the pen and play with them, but sadly this was not a possibility.

We then went and saw the horses and pigs and then found a parent photo op of our son!

The farm was fun, but I think we were expecting more opportunities for petting the animals, not just looking at them. On our way back to the car we stopped by the nice playground on the grounds. Gideon enjoyed playing there and we had a nice picnic lunch.

Overall it was a fun family day, but we look forward to checking out other petting zoos where there are more opportunities to touch the animals!
